Synopsis: Hope Anderson is at a crossroads. At thirty-six, she’s been dating her boyfriend, an orthopedic surgeon, for six years. With no wedding plans in sight, and her father recently diagnosed with ALS, she decides to use a week at her family’s cottage in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, to ready the house for sale and mull over some difficult decisions about her future.
Tru Walls has never visited North Carolina but is summoned to Sunset Beach by a letter from a man claiming to be his father. A safari guide, born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tru hopes to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding his mother’s early life and recapture memories lost with her death. When the two strangers cross paths, their connection is as electric as it is unfathomable . . . but in the immersive days that follow, their feelings for each other will give way to choices that pit family duty against personal happiness in devastating ways.
Illuminating life’s heartbreaking regrets and enduring hope, EVERY BREATH explores the many facets of love that lay claim to our deepest loyalties–while asking the question, How long can a dream survive?
Are you looking for a timeless, classic love story that only Nicholas Sparks can pull off? Well you found one. This isn’t going to be your steamy intense romance novel; but instead a classic, true told love story that is realistic and relatable for readers.
For the past 20 years, Nicholas Sparks has cemented himself as one of the top writers, if not the top writer, of realistic love stories. With this last few books, I had felt that his “magic” has started to die out and his books read as a common love story book. But with this book, I started to see a glimpse of the old Nicholas Sparks; the one who brought us A Walk To Remember, The Notebook, and Dear John.
While Every Breath does not deserve a spot on a shelf with such classics, the book had a strong start that had me hopeful that it would earn that spot. Nonetheless, I still really enjoyed this love story and found the characters entertaining, with them going through experiences that were relatable and real feeling. I found myself pondering life at many points in the novel.
Every Breath is suitable for readers of all ages and is an entertaining read. I really love Sparks’s use of language and imagery; there are some parts of this book that I found myself re-reading just for the sheer beauty of the words.
I look forward to reading Sparks’s future novels and hope they continue on this road back to the greatness of his classics!
